A Small Change of Plans

These are the views we were supposed to enjoy this week.
These are the views we got instead - from a 17th floor hospital room, where Husband (and I) spent a good part of this week.  After days of fever, chills, body aches and an excruciating headache, two trips to the ER and one spinal tap later, he was finally diagnosed with and treated for meningitis.

The good news is, he does not have meningococcal meningitis.  The doctors said that if he did, he'd be dead now. Husband said that "meningococcal" sounds like a dessert he'd like to try and cannot possibly be a name for a disease.  OK...

The bad news is, we canceled our Cancun vacation (the first REAL vacation we've planned since our honeymoon more than three years ago).  Not to worry, though.  There are benefits to this:

1.  I grew out of one bikini completely, and the second one barely fits.  By the time I discovered this, it was too late to shop for a new one.
2.  Ruby will enjoy having us home after a lonely week.  I didn't want to be away from her for a whole week anyway.

By the way, I was planning on closing my shop while we were going to be on vacation.  Now, the shop will remain open!

  1. Wow, that's awful! Glad they found out what was wrong and can treat it. Were you able to reschedule or get your money back? Hope he heals quick!

  2. get better bert! do you think subconsciously bert just couldn't leave ruby?!?

  3. I am sorry that so much happened. But I am glad at the same time that he was diagnosed and treated, and on his way to recovery. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!

  4. oh my, that's awful. way to look on the bright side.

  5. Glad to hear Bert is on the road to a full recovery and doing so much better, what a scary experience! The hospital views are spectacular, I do love the New York views!

  6. gosh! how scary - speedy recovery to you both! im sure you'll get to enjoy another vacation soon - at least you are both Ok!! we wanted to go to Cancun a few years back...maybe one day we'll get there! we were in NYC last year - totally loved it!!

  7. Please know that I just said a wee prayer for you. Situations like these arise, like "turbulenc" and they often are followed by smoothness.
I have lots of experience in this I speak!
Take care and get back in that bikini for the next trip!
    Get hubby well first.

  8. Sorry to hear your unexpected news. Thanks for stopping by the blog this a.m.
