It's All Fun and Games...

... until Momma's computer mouse no longer works.

And then Papa gives her his mouse.

But I break that mouse too - just like this:

Now Momma says she beat me at my own game by getting a wireless mouse.  I am not very computer-savvy, but how is it possible?  There's gotta be a cord somewhere...  Hmm...

Love,
Ruby

What Kind of an Unpacker are You?

a)  I unpack as soon as I get home from a trip.
b)  I wait and postpone it.  Then I wait some more.  And then I wait some more.  And then I finally unpack.
c)  I unpack... never.
d)  Both b) and c).

I am back from my trip!  We ate, laughed, shopped, ate more, and I came back fat.  It was great.

I have not yet unpacked.  I am definitely a d).  What about you?

Thursday Edibles - Pumpkin Soup

I first made this delicious soup while taking a cooking class in Europe last year.  It took me nearly a year to make it again! What a perfect soup for the fall season.  I found the perfect little pumpkin at the grocery store; Ruby checked it out and gave it the OK, and I got to work!

Servings: 4+

Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter
1 medium onion
2 celery stalks
1 small leek
1 small pumpkin (around 1 lb)
1 tablespoon flour
3 cups vegetable stock
1 cup orange juice
1 cup heavy cream (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
1-2 tablespoons roasted pumpkin seeds

Preparation
Peel and chop the onion, celery and leek and saute briefly in butter.  Add the pumpkin (peeled and cut into small cubes) and continue cooking for several minutes.  Sprinkle with flour and add orange juice and vegetable stock.  Season with salt and pepper and allow to simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Puree the soup with a blender or mixer.  Pass through a strainer if desired.

Add heavy cream and heat through. (I skip the heavy cream - the soup is plenty rich without it!)

Ladle soup into bowls and garnish with pumpkin seeds before serving.

A Perfect Autumn Sunday

This Sunday we ventured out to the Upper West Side.  We had brunch at Nice Matin (where they serve my favorite Eggs Benedict ever!) and then headed to Riverside Park.  There we enjoyed a quiet walk and spotted this dog getting a tan.

Then we made our way back to Midtown. I noticed a carousel at Bryant Park! I am sure it has always been there, but I just noticed it for the first time that day. I LOVE carousels and Ferris wheels. Guess who rode it!  Husband and I both did!

It was a perfect Sunday in the city.  Then I ruined French Onion soup by dropping the plastic container filled with it on the kitchen floor. It went everywhere, and our house and cat will smell like onions forever.

What did you do this weekend?

1. Leave a comment with your guess of the four flavors.

2. Be sure to leave your name and e-mail address right in the comments section, so that I have a way to get in touch with you.

P.S.  It was Ruby.  It wasn't me.  Ruby ate some of that yellow cupcake!  I caught her red-handed.

Octopus Down!

Remember my octopus?

Now he is bleeding. (Did you know octopuses have white blood?)

He's got a sucking chest wound (and I think I caused it). Nooooooooooo!!!

XOXO,
Ruby
